Before SongGifty became a real product, I built a simple prototype to test an idea. I believed a personalized song could help people give a meaningful gift and express feelings they might struggle to put into words.

I used that prototype to make a song for my mother, Catherine, on her 63rd birthday. I wrote about her Dublin roots, her life as a doctor and public-health writer, and how much she cares about making the world a little better. For the specific line I wanted included, I wrote something very simple: “She has such a big heart.”

I was living in Barcelona, so I sent the song to our family group and asked my dad to record her hearing it for the first time. She cried happy tears. That honest reaction is the video you can see on the SongGifty homepage today.

Watching her recognize her own life in the song changed the way I saw the idea. It showed me that SongGifty could help more people feel noticed, understood, and loved. That was the moment I decided to build it properly.
